Automobile accidents are one of the leading causes of injury and death in the United States. As more and more cars enter our roadways, more and more risks and threats are present to drivers.

There are approximately 6 million car accidents in the United States every year. Of these 6 million accidents, there are 3 million injuries - about 2 million of which are permanent, including paralysis, paraplegia, and quadriplegia. Car accidents are responsible for killing over 40,000 people each year.

With numbers like these, it is likely that at some point, every driver will be involved in some kind of auto accident. Whether it is a "fender bender" or a one more serious, it is always important to protect yourself.

Always be a cautious and courteous driver. Protect yourself by owning automobile insurance. It is estimated that 25% of the cars on the road are being driven by uninsured drivers.

If you are involved in any type of car accident, you may be eligible to collect compensation from any negligent parties. If you have sustained an injury, you should hold the negligent party or parties responsible for any injuries, loss of income, medical expenses, among many others.

  1. Insist that a report be filed with the police, sheriff or highway patrol.
  2. Obtain the name, address, insurance information, vehicle license number and driver's license number of any and all other persons involved in the accident.
  3. Also get the names, addresses and telephone numbers of all witnesses.
  4. Photograph the accident scene, including all vehicles involved (before repairing) and any visible injuries (cuts, bruises).
  5. Talk to no one about the accident or injuries other than your doctor or lawyer, especially not an insurance adjuster.
  6. Sign nothing without consulting a lawyer. Truthful statements made in an attempt to be helpful can easily be misinterpreted and turned against you.
  7. Seek medical attention and tell your physician or surgeon exactly how the injury occurred and describe all symptoms and complaints.
  8. Be sure to report memory problems, confusion or disorientation, however minor these things may seem at the time.

Trusting your health, and sometimes your life, to doctors, surgeons, and other medical professionals is something people do on a daily basis. People trust medical professionals in part because of their extensive education and residency training. When a mistake happens, whether in a clinic, emergency room, or hospital, patients are often left feeling angry and confused. They wonder how a professional with such extensive training could have been so negligent. Medical malpractice is considered an epidemic that continues to spread in the United States today.

Every year there are more deaths as a result of medical errors than AIDS, breast cancer, and auto accidents combined.

Every year more than 1.3 million people are injured due to medication errors.

Every year up to 98,000 people may die in hospitals from doctor errors.

Some types of medical malpractice may be:

  • Delay in diagnosis
  • Anesthesia error
  • Improper consent before a procedure
  • Surgical error
  • Failure to diagnose a condition
  • Improper treatment of an illness or disease
  • Birth injury, including cerebral palsy and brain damage

Whether a small project for an individual homeowner or a major project for a large commercial development, construction workers face very dangerous working conditions every day. As a result, serious work-related injuries at construction sites occur with an alarming frequency.

Every year thousands of construction workers and laborers are killed or seriously injured while working at construction sites. The latest statistics for workers in the United States indicate that there were 5.7 million occupational injuries and illnesses among U.S. workers. Accidents on the job result in the deaths of 6,000 workers each year.

This occurs even though many state and federal regulations, as well as industry standards, require owners, general contractors, and subcontractors to implement a wide variety of safety measures to prevent construction negligence.

Although workers' compensation helps employees while injured on the job, it is usually not enough to fully compensate injured workers for all the damages sustained as a result of their work-related construction accidents.

If you, a family member, or someone you know has been seriously and/or permanently injured as a result of a construction accident, please contact the construction attorneys in Mazraani & Liguori, by filling out our online contact form.
